Alphabet Pattern Block Masters

These pattern blocks can be used as an open-ended literacy center, or in a directed lesson. The activity can also be extended to have children make whole words out of them by combining multiple copies of the letters. You can also give them pre-cut paper pattern blocks and have them glue them down permanently for an art project.

Sounds Fun - Phonics Flash Cards

Each character has a corresponding motion that goes with it. When the children are drilled with the flash cards and are asked to respond physically and verbally, they tend to remember much more quickly than without the kinesthetic element.

Printed card set includes: 25 flashcards for 25 different letter combinations, including long vowels, r controlled vowels, and the sounds for digraphs /sh/, /th/, and /ch/. Presented in four different formats for ease of use: 25 large 8-1/2 x 11" cards, 4 small 4-1/4 x 5-1/2" cards with all images to cut apart, and 1 single page with all 25 images to cut apart.

Please note that the long vowel sounds that are written with a silent e at the end of the word have been intentionally left out of this set. This is because this method of introducing that type of ”_a_e “ sound spelling pattern (with a missing consonant, as in the word, “cake,” or “bike”) proved ineffective. The children learned this sound spelling pattern better using other methods, such as the “bossy e” makes a long vowel sound rule.

Songbook, Flashcards & Bingo
Print and bind a songbook for your children to read along with the songs. Can be used in a listening center, or simply placed in your classroom or home library. Upper & Lower Case letter Flashcards can provide reinforcement while singing the songs, learning drills, or games in the classroom. They are also great to send home with the children so that their parents can help them learn their letters at home. There are two sets of bingo games included: one set each for the capital and lower case letters. In my class, a fully covered card is a bingo, and can be played in large and small groups or individually. Use the small alphabet flashcards for the calling cards.
