Musical Math helps kids learn the vocabulary associated with many primary math concepts, including:  counting to 100, sorting, patterning, comparing sets (more, less, and equal), skip counting, coin recognition, estimation, addition, and subtraction.  The songs are short, fun, and catchy.  The DVD also shows animated examples of each concept in the video intro and "outro" of each song.  The activities on the Musical Math Resource CD support the concepts presented in this set of songs.  This CD/DVD is one of Heidi's favorites and a "must have" for any K-1 classroom.

This set includes the masters to print out the Sing Along Songbook for the entire Musical Math CD, which makes a great listening center. It also includes the visual aid booklet for the “Alphabet Action” song, which has one page for each letter to flip through and show the children while singing the song. There is also a three page visual aid booklet to hold while singing the “What Comes Next?” song, so that the children can see each written number that they are singing.
The “Boing” Counting Game is also a fun way to practice counting in a small group, and uses a springtime animals theme. In this game, the children must tell what number comes next in a series of numbers from one to one hundred, such as “27, 28, 29, ____.” If they get a “special” picture card, they get to hop like a rabbit, quack like a duck, fly like a bird, etc. There is no penalty for getting the answer wrong, and kids love having a chance to do the actions.

This set includes a cute little Addition Book that the children decorate with thumbprints, using a spring time theme. The book has one page for each addition song for a total of eight separate pages to help kids memorize the basic addition facts with sums up to ten. The games include “Fuzzy Wuzzy,” which plays like Blackjack, but with the goal being sums to seven rather than 21. There is also an “Addition With Manipulatives” activity and recording sheet, in which children make their own addition problems up using two different colors of manipulatives, and then record their equations.

This set includes the various games from the Musical Math Resource CD that are not included in the Addition or Subtraction or Songbook sets, including activities for learning about coins, estimation, comparing sets, volume shapes.
* In the Coin Trading Game, the children collect pennies and trade them for nickels, trade nickels for dimes, and then trade both for quarters. The person with the most money at the end is the winner. There are three different versions of this game: one includes pennies and nickels only for the youngest learners. The next includes pennies, nickels, and dimes, and the last ones includes pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters for those that are ready.
* The Estimation Chart is simply a decorated motivational chart to print, on which children may write their names if they make the closest guess in quantity when estimating. The children in my class loved to see their names on this chart when they were “the winner” and made the best “smart guess” on each round of estimation practice.
* The More, Less, & Equal Game includes directions and a spinner for the teacher to make. In this game, the children roll a die and take that many counters. Then they spin the spinner to see if more, less, or equal is the winner. The game continues until the counters run out.
* The Three-D Shape Graph contains the master to print out a graph for the children to chart their favorite shaped candy. The children sample each type of candy and graph their favorite. This is a fun activity to do around Halloween or Valentine’s Day with extra treats. To complete this graph, the teacher or parents would have to provide the following:
- a cone shaped candy, such as Hershey’s Kisses
- a cylinder shaped candy, such as Rolos
- a sphere shaped candy, such as Whoppers

Include in this set: Coin Trading Game, Estimation Chart, More, Less, & Equal Game, Three-D Shape Graph

This set includes a fun lift the flap Subtraction Book for the children to make with a zoo animal theme. Children as young as Kindergarten can complete this book with little help, since the bodies or heads of the animals are started for them with dotted lines. All that they have to do is trace the lines and add the missing features of the animals, such as the legs, tail, and face, etc. (Please note that the text of the book is a poem to read and memorize about zoo animals that go missing, rather than a song, and was not included in the Musical Math CD or DVD.) The “Yummy Subtraction Game” includes directions and a spinner. In this game, the children spin to see how many pieces of cereal they may start with, and then spin another spinner with smaller numbers to see how many pieces they may eat.
