Sing & Spell 4 Lyrics
Sing & Spell - Volume 4
To help kids: Read and Spell
more Sight Words from the Dolch list!
With this set of Sight Words, I tried to fill in the gaps to include all of the remaining top 50 words on the Dolch list. I also included a few words that I felt the children needed for writing projects, such as “friend,” “nice,” and “love.” I believe that brings my Spelling Song Series word count up to 108! Making it what I consider to be the most useful words among the top 50 on any list.

Sing & Spell Vol. 4- Songbook & Worksheets
Originally available only in the HeidiSongs Resource CD, this set of worksheets is actually a "cloze" activity that uses the words to each song. On each sheet, the the words to the song are written out for the child. However, each time he comes to the "target" word of the song, there is a blank space for the child to fill in the word. This allows the child to practice writing the target word several times, but within the context of the song. For added help, the first time the target word comes up in the song, the blank has traceable letters for the child to practice writing that word on the space. After that, he or she simply fills in each blank space with the missing word or spelling of the word.

Project - $5.00
My students usually start this lesson by reading the lyrics to the song off of a chart, and "underlining" the target word with Wiki Stix. I always have my students try to "read" and sing the song back to me when they are finished, touching each word as they say it. This gives them extra practice in tracking words in a sentence and also gives them the feeling of reading fluently.

I am currently working a the next Sing & Spell volume of words and already have a handful of ideas coming along. I primarily draw from the Dolch, Fry, Open Court and Houghton-Mifflin reading lists for these projects, but if you any other thoughts or ideas for words, please share them by dropping me a note to Heidi@heidisongs.com
